Rangers Make First Seven Cuts of Training Camp

Yesterday the Rangers announced that they had trimmed their training camp roster by seven.

PTO goaltenders Francois Brassard and Tom McCollum have been assigned to the Hartford Wolfpack’s own training camp along with forwards Ville Meskanen, Ryan Gropp, and Ty Ronning. In addition, defensemen Nico Gross and Hunter Skinner were assigned to their OHL teams, the Oshawa Generals and the London Knights respectively.

While Meskanen and Ty Ronning still have a lot of growth ahead of them, this assignment to the Wolfpack is perhaps most concerning for Ryan Gropp. Gropp was selected 41st overall in 2015 and has all the tools needed to succeed, yet is not consistent enough to even be a regular in the AHL, as he was demoted down to the Maine Mariners, the Rangers ECHL affiliate last season. Gropp has one year left on his entry-level contract, and maybe under new Wolfpack head coach Kris Knoblauch, he will find a way to to make strides towards becoming NHL-ready.

There are 48 players remaining in training camp and they are as follows:

Forwards (27): Lias Andersson, Connor Brickley, Pavel Buchnevich, Filip Chytil, Phillip Di Giuseppe, Jake Elmer, Jesper Fast, Steven Fogarty, Gabriel Fontaine, Tim Gettinger, Micheal Haley, Brett Howden, Nick Jones, Kaapo Kakko, Vitali Kravtsov, Chris Kreider, Dawson Leedahl, Brendan Lemieux, Vinni Lettieri, Greg McKegg, Vladislav Namestnikov, Patrick Newell, Boo Nieves, Danny O’Regan, Artemi Panarin, Ryan Strome, Mika Zibanejad

Defensemen (17): Brandon Crawley, Sean Day, Adam Fox, Mason Geertsen, Libor Hajek, Joey Keane, Ryan Lindgren, Vincent LoVerde, Joe Morrow, Darren Raddysh, Tarmo Reunanen, Matthew Robertson, Yegor Rykov, Brady Skjei, Brendan Smith, Marc Staal, Jacob Trouba

Goaltenders (4): Alexandar Georgiev, Adam Huska, Henrik Lundqvist, Igor Shesterkin
